Finally had a proper model to test out the new lens. I had to fight the urge to “adjust the zoom” which was awkward at first. But it wasn’t long before I began zooming (aka using my legs) as needed. These are photos of Anna taken on a cold afternoon at the Landing. Hobbies include sleeping, eating and posing adorably for the camera.

Bokeh So Creamy

A couple days ago one of Canon’s most highly coveted lens finally shows up at my doorstep. This 35mm black beauty speaks professional build, an ultra quiet, sleek focusing system and bokeh so creamy you could dip strawberries in it. My 24-70L is already jealous — and rightfully so. This new lens is expected to stay on my camera at least 90% of the time. Don’t worry 24-70, I still love you.
In addition to new gear and the migration to prime lenses I’ve begun the transition to a different metering mode: Spot Metering. So what does this mean to my photography?
More control.
If mastered I should be able to determine exposure much more accurately rather than relying on Evaluative Metering — which can be easily fooled when shooting anything very dark or very white.
Ok… so what?
Keep in mind I am a wedding photographer and wedding dresses are usually very white and suits are usually very black.
Smell what I’m sayin?
Delivering the best possible photos to clients is my job. This new lens simply makes it easier. And easy never felt so good.
Added Peace of Mind

I finally got around to buying this beauty. It’s the Intelligent LCD Series UPS from Cyberpower. Now I can edit photos even on rainy days without worrying about lightening surges or power outages frying my computer. And while I do pay a premium to back up all my photos to a Datacenter somewhere in OH, it’s that added peace of mind knowing my client’s photos have that added level of protection.
