Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. The Bowl For Kids Sake North East Florida is an annual fundraising event that raised over $100,000 $120,000. It was held at Bowl America on Beach Blvd with over 500 participants and volunteers — including two Jaguar players: Charles Davis and MK Bruce. I was priviledged to be a part of this event as their official photographer. Probably the most interesting part of the event for me was running into people I haven’t seen in years. Who knew that the very same people I grew up withh or went to highschool with would be a big brother or sister?
If you haven’t donated yet, it’s not too late! I did!

It’s always nice to just kick back and hang out with the nieces and nephew. While I’m not one for posed shots — especially of children as it tends to take away from the essence — this one is actually a personal favorite. There’s just something about that deep, curious gaze from the nephew. Or maybe it’s the mischievous look of the middle child’s face. In either case their alluring stares remind me so much of my own childhood — of days when my heart was pure and my thoughts were innocent.
I am reminded that the ability to draw out such emotions and bring into the light memories buried deep within – even from a simple photograph as this — is a testimony to how important my role as a photographer really is.

Meet Lauren — vibrant, energetic, friendly and all smiles. If there’s anything that makes a photographer’s job easier it’s having all these qualities in the person you’re shooting. I met up with a fellow photographer at Memorial Park (since that’s where all the photographers in Jacksonville seem to hang out) to take some outdoor photography. Lauren was brave enough to be our model. (Thanks Lauren!).
