Niece’s 5th

February 15th, 2010 § 2

They grow up so fast. Yesterday was the niece’s 5th birthday. Princess themed (of course). The older she becomes the more defined her sense of colors, space, composition become. Her style is certainly unconventional and her definition of a princess is not one that you’d often find in a Disney film. Intertwine the traditional princess and Lady Gaga and you have my niece. She’s quite a character.

There isn’t a doubt that she’s a right-brained thinker. When she draws, she composes complete stories and shares them with me. I remember she drew a princess behind bars with a butterfly, complete with flight trail. She later explains how the princess was trapped and a butterfly flew into a window and transformed into a prince and rescued her.

…are you sure Hayla isn’t your daughter? hehehe just kidding. i love the story about the princess and the butterfly…kind of symbolic in a weird-4 or 5 year old thinking-kind of way…would have been nice to actually have a photo of Hayla in this blog :D
