Niece’s 5th

February 15th, 2010 § 2

They grow up so fast. Yesterday was the niece’s 5th birthday. Princess themed (of course). The older she becomes the more defined her sense of colors, space, composition become. Her style is certainly unconventional and her definition of a princess is not one that you’d often find in a Disney film. Intertwine the traditional princess and Lady Gaga and you have my niece. She’s quite a character.

There isn’t a doubt that she’s a right-brained thinker. When she draws, she composes complete stories and shares them with me. I remember she drew a princess behind bars with a butterfly, complete with flight trail. She later explains how the princess was trapped and a butterfly flew into a window and transformed into a prince and rescued her.

Last night the GF and I — along with several friends — stopped by the Adams household for a surprise birthday party. The birthday girl was utterly surprised to see us at her doorstep. I believe this is the first time anyone’s ever thrown her a surprise party and thanks to the careful planning of key people (including the hubby who was the mastermind behind it all) she was just tickled pink in the inside.

Beer Pong — one of the few games where you can make up the rules as you go. The more beers you drink, the more interesting th rules become.

Shipped directly from Chicago. Deep dish style: cheese and sausage. I had to admit these were quite tasty. I can only imagine how much better they would be fresh from the restaurant’s oven.

Chicago style and Filipino style. Can you guess which is which?

The ingredients straight from Heaven’s cookbook.

It’s not the marshmallows, the graham crackers or even the chocolate that makes s’mores the perfect treat. It’s gathering around the fire on a chilly evening with great friends and family that makes life all that much sweeter.

What do you get when you combine cloudless blue skies, 78 degree weather, crisp cool breeze and a warm Florida sun? Crowded beaches with absolutely no parking in sight!

But seriously though… I had a wonderful time hanging out with Anthony, Monika and their recently turned 1 year old daughter Natalia. I can’t believe that it’s been almost a year ago that I took her baptism photos. Where has the time gone? Natalia is developing into a beautiful young lady — so full of smiles, laughter and a curiosity.

Happy Birthday Natalia! You’re now officially the big O-N-E.
